What is New

  • We have been having a breakfast snack at school first thing in the morning.  This is a pilot project for elementary students until June 17.  Everyone seems to be enjoying it.  I would like to thank Bassano FCSS for funding this project for us.   
  • Please remember that if you are planning on being a  parent volunteer for any field trips you will need to have criminal record check done prior to the trip.  We will need a photocopy of it sent to school.  Thanks so much! 
  • I am still missing a number of field trip forms for the Calgary Zoo and Blackfoot Crossing.  Please make sure that you sign and return these as soon as possible.  Please also send the $9 for the Blackfoot Crossing field trip. 
  • The grades 1-3 classes are hosting a Father's day picnic lunch.  This is on Friday, June 17 from 12- 1.  Please R.S.V.P as soon as possible.  Thank you! 
  • We will be swimming starting on Monday.  Please make sure your child has a bathing suit, towel, and extra snack on swimming days. Thanks so much!  I have snet home a note with our swimming times and dates in your child's Friday folder.
  • Our last library time will be on Tuesday, June 14. All library books need to be returned by this day.  Any books not returned need to be paid for.  You will receive a bill to replace the cost of the missing book.

   Language Arts- Smart Start in Language Arts

  • The class has been doing the Joanne Moore reading program this week. We have also been working on journal writing and story writing.  We have finished writing our story and we will be starting another story next week.

 

 Language Arts

  • The class has been working on story writing.  We have also been doing some reading testing for report cards. 
  • There is a copy of the Joanne Moore reading assessment for report cards.    Any of the words that are circled are the ones that your child had difficulty with.  Please continue to review these with your child. 
  • We have also been focusing on A.R. this week.   We have been working toward our reading goal to get more reading points. 

 Mathematics

  • In mathematics this week the class has been working on two digit subtraction and graphing.  We have also been trying to finish up our measurement centers. 

 

 Science

  • This week in science we have been doing some boat and bouyancy actvities.  We will be building boats in the upcoming weeks.  If you have any supplies you can send us to use to build boats we would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks so much!

 

 Social Studies

  • The students have finished up their diaromas.  We have talked about the clothing and people in the Arctic.

 Character Education - Kelso Choices

  • We are using the Kelso choices program at school to help us solve small problems. We discuss Kelso choices at our weekly assemblies. The Kelso choices are ignore it, walk away, share and take turns, make a deal, talk it out, tell them to stop, apologize, wait and cool off, and go to another game.
  • The class has been watching the Kelso puppet plays at our weekly assemblies. We have been discussing what big and small problems are. If we have a small problem we need to try three of Kelso's choices, if we have a big problem we need to tell a teacher or adult and get help.

 Line Leader and Sharing Schedules

 Star Student

  • This week we have two star students.  They are Gladys and Peekay.  Gladys has made tremendous improvements this year and I am very proud of her accomplishments.  Peekay is a hard worker and she always tries her best.  Great work!
