Language LearningWords of the week - day, funny, fly, hole, go, little, then, happy - Our Joanne Moore Program will change considerably next week. We are adding a lot of new concepts such as Bumper words , ghost words , one beat/two beat words and Compound Words. Please take the time to review your child's reading when they bring it home. I try hard to send it on the day we do Joanne Moore but that is not always possible. - You may notice in their Joanne Moore reading that comes home Monday, Wed and Thursday a few things. See below: 1. First page - if there is a word that is circled or has a tick on top that means your child had trouble with that word. Please have your child read those sentences to you and anyone in your house including the dog. They should point to each word. You will find some highlighted words as well next week as we learn to identify and sound out Bumper Words. There are also comprehension questions at the bottom of the page that the kids are expected to read and answer. 2. We are working on a lot of decoding skills right now. In our reading work (page two )there is 3 letter blending. Page three we are sounding out simple 3 and 4 letter words including some blends like ck, sh, ch. Next week, you will see compound words, decoding regular words(short vowel) and Bumper words. Big Big Changes and expectations! 3. Sentence on the last page - We have begun to look at capital, period, spaces, verbs(action), color word, neatness and spelling of their table dictionary words. You might see the word good, better or Wow on their paper. We are working hard at writing WOW sentences. We discuss and practice daily the difference between good, better and WOW. example - Ghost words - ghost words have the silent gh letters that make no noise. - ight family - a word family is a group of letters that make one sound. In a word family the last group of letters is like the last name in a family but the beginning letters keep changing. Math- This week we did a lot of addition work. We introduced some paper and pencil work and so far the kids are doing well. We discuss a lot of vocabulary in relation to addition. Equal sign means = same as, equal + sign means - plus, addition, add, - Next week we will continue to work on addition concepts as well as showing and seeing number. We will also coninue to explore some of the smaller numbers like 6 or 7. - We have finished our Shape Centres and will be moving on to number centres later on this month. Thank you to Mrs. Laprise for coming on Mondays and helping us. - We continue to work on counting by 2's, 5's and 10's.We are learning about using money to help us wioth that skip counting. I can show my understanding of counting in many ways. I can draw and tell about numbers to 20. I can show my understanding of repeating patterns in many different ways. I can identify,draw and build a 2 D shape.

RemindersSchool Fees are due any time Singing Club - We are taking a break for the month of January for sure. The first Thursday of every month is MOVIE DAY in Bassano. Generally the 330 movie is a children's movie and the 730 movie is for the teens and adult.
Character- Kindness- we have begun to introduce Character Education into our classrom as well as our assemblies. We will be working with students on the virtue of Kindness for the next 2 months. - Right now our focus is on teaching studenst about Kelso's choices. We utiilze Kelso's choices as a fundamental component to solving small problems. - I have stapled the Kelso's choice problem solving wheel to the inside cover of your child's agenda.
